A Louisiana photojournalist who pulled a pregnant woman from a burning car last week said his turn as Good Samaritan was a natural instinct since people always outweigh stories.
“We’re a family oriented station,” WBRZ cameraman Patrick Perry told “Fox & Friends” on Monday. “We always put people first, stories second. So this pretty much came natural for us to do something like this.”
Perry and reporter Brittany Weiss were on their way to cover a flooding story Tuesday when they spotted a burning car on the side of the road in Denham Springs. Inside, 21-year-old Caitlynn Godinez sat inches from flames. Though Perry didn’t know it at the time, Godinez is 7-months pregnant, WBRZ reported.
“He says, ‘Oh my gosh, we have to stop, we have to help this person!’” Weiss told “Fox & Friends.”
As Perry ran to carry the soon-to-be mom from the wreck, Weiss picked up Perry’s camera to document the dramatic moment.
Perry said the woman and her unborn baby are doing well and recovering at home. The pair hope to reunite with the woman they helped in the near future.
“You cover stories like this but rarely witness a hero first hand,” Weiss wrote on Facebook.
