A deadly road rage incident in California has reportedly left one man dead and another facing murder charges.
Fox 40 reports that the sound of gunshots on early Saturday morning disrupted the normally quiet streets of Predial and Essence ways in North Highlands when Duane Lomax got involved in a road rage incident with two women.
“It was about 2 o’clock in the morning,” said neighbor Nancy Lee. “The dogs were going crazy. You just hear the ‘pop, pop, pop, pop.’”
Lomax dialed 911 after he said the women waved a gun at him. He then began to follow the women in order to get a better description of their car, the station reports.
The unidentified women then called a relative, 24-year-old Brian Jones, for help. Deputies said Jones soon pulled up alongside Lomax and shot him several times while Lomax was on the phone with authorities.
Lomax could not be revived by responding paramedics, but was able to give authorities a good description of the vehicles involved. Jones was later arrested and now faces murder charges. The women, meanwhile, did not expect Jones to bring a weapon and aren’t facing criminal charges.
“I have been here 10 years — this is not good,” Lee said. “It is not safe.”
