California Lawmaker's Missing Grandchildren Found in Mexico
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The three missing grandchildren of a California lawmaker were located in Mexico almost four years after they were allegedly kidnapped by their mother, police said Thursday.
Jennifer Lopez Dejongh, 34, fled Los Angeles County in 2007 with her three boys in violation of a shared custody agreement with her ex-husband Brian Miller, the son of Rep. Gary Miller (R-Calif.), the Los Angeles Times reported.
On Wednesday, police arrested Dejongh and her husband George Dejongh in the Mexican city of Tijuana, KSWB-TV said.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The three boys -- Brian, 12, and twins Christian and Evan, 10 -- were transferred to U.S. authorities and taken to the L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services early Thursday.
"My wife and I are extremely relieved that after more than three-and-a-half years our grandchildren have been found unharmed and returned safely to the United States," Gary Miller said in a statement.
Dejongh was being held in a San Dimas, Calif., jail on $500,000 bail. She faces up to three years in prison if found guilty of child custody deprivation.
