Boy, 13, dies after being pulled from Massachusetts pond
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Authorities are investigating the apparent drowning of a 13-year-old Massachusetts boy in a pond where swimming is barred.
Police received a report of a swimmer in distress in the Lynn Woods Reservation in Saugus just before 2 p.m. Sunday.
The Essex district attorney's office says the boy, from Lynn, had been in the water with a group of friends and was having difficulty swimming.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The body of water is known as Walden Pond, though it is not the one in Concord made famous by author Henry David Thoreau.
Emergency personnel located the boy around 2:30 p.m. and tried to resuscitate him. The boy was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. No foul play is suspected.
