A bee attack has killed one Las Vegas Metro police dog and injured two others.

Police say the attack occurred Tuesday morning in kennels outside the home of their handler, Officer Mel English, who also was stung.

Mickey, an 11-year-old Belgian Malinois, died after being stung the most by the swarm of bees. He was a police dog for nearly nine years before retiring in March.

Two other active police dogs also were injured and were being cared for by a veterinarian. They're expected to fully recover.

English, who has been assigned to Las Vegas Metro's K-9 unit since 1997, was stung on his hands and legs.

But he told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that his injuries were "not that big of a deal."
