At least seven people were injured after a house exploded and collapsed Thursday in Vernon, Conn., trapping some inside, officials said.

Vernon Police said on Twitter that three people were found outside the home when first responders arrived at the scene, and four others were trapped inside the house. They were all extricated and brought to area hospitals, police said.

One of the people rescue crews pulled out from the collapsed house was a boy under the age of 10, Fox 61 reported.

While the extent of injuries has not yet been made public, Vernon Police Lt. William Meier told Fox 61 the victims he saw when he arrived at the scene were alert when they were taken to the hospital.

Search and rescue teams on scene are looking for other possible victims, and are working to stabilize the structure

The cause of the blast was not immediately known. Officials from Vernon and the state fire marshal's office are investigating.
