At least 2 killed, 7 wounded in Washington shooting

Authorities were searching for suspects after a shooting left two dead and seven others wounded in Washington D.C. on Saturday.

Fox 5 DC reported the shooting took place after a community event near the Barry Farm neighborhood. Witnesses said that there was a gun battle and several people were caught in the crossfire.

The two victims were identified as Scorpio Phillips and 18-year-old Zoruan Harris, both D.C. natives.

"I'm just shocked because they took a good person’s life," Phillips' cousin, identified only as Lashawn, told the station. "The person who would take their clothes off their back and give it to you."

Police said that an 8-year-old boy was among the wounded, but he was conscious and talking. Witnesses said they believe the boy was only grazed by the bullet.

All seven people wounded in the shooting were expected to survive.

Witnesses also told Fox 5 DC that it took more than 20 minutes for emergency personnel to arrive at the scene. However, D.C. Fire and EMS disputed the allegations, saying two ambulances arrived within nine minutes of being dispatched.

Police offered a $25,000 reward for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the deadly shooting.
