PHOENIX – An Arizona man who admitted to fatally stabbing and dismembering his son-in-law has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.
Maricopa County prosecutors say 59-year-old Clarence Moton was sentenced Friday. He accepted a plea agreement and pleaded guilty in September to second-degree murder in the 2005 death of Darrin Hale.
The Arizona Republic says Moton, of Avondale, told Gilbert police that he killed Hale at the behest of his daughter.
Family members told investigators that Hale was upset that his wife refinanced their Gilbert home without his consent and hid money from him.
Hale told police that he fatally stabbed Hale on Dec. 17, 2005, then drove to California, where he decapitated the victim, cut off his hands and deposited them in different locations in the open desert.
