Undercover agents presented Finton with the van, which actually contained harmless material, on Sept. 23. In separate incidents, two men are in federal custody after failed attempts to detonate what they thought were bombs outside a Springfield, Ill. courthouse and beneath a Dallas office building. Federal agents provided American Michael Finton and Jordanian Hosam Maher Husein Smadi with fake bombs. Authorities say the cases are not connected to each other or to the case of suspected terrorist Najibullah Zazi, who allegedly bought bomb making materials in connection to terror plots.
