All clear at Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama

Authorities on Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama issued an all clear Friday afternoon after part of the base was evacuated over a package believed to contain explosive material.

Buildings across from the Montgomery base's post office were evacuated and its main entrance has been closed during the investigation. The package, which was described as the size of a box of blank checks, was discovered during a routine inspection, Michael Ritz, the base’s chief of media relations, said. It was later determined that the package contained foodstuff.
