The U.S. Coast Guard rescued 44 people from a natural gas platform about 55 miles off Louisiana Tuesday morning after a blowout occurred, Fox8Live.com reported.

The Hercules Platform No. 265 rig has been evacuated and no injuries have been reported. Crews are en route to assess the situation. It appears that only natural gas is leaking, one Jefferson Parish councilman said.

The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement says inspectors flying over the site saw a light sheen covering an area about a half-mile by 50 feet. However, it was dissipating quickly.
