LOS ANGELES – A 24-year-old man California man has been charged with the murder of a popular high school soccer player who was shot and killed in front of his home.
Los Angeles County prosecutors say Jason Schumann, of Calabasas, was charged Wednesday with one count of murder in the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Francisco Javier Rodriguez Jr.
Prosecutors will ask that Schumann's bail be set at $2 million at his arraignment later Wednesday.
No charges have yet been filed against 19-year-old Elizabeth Ibarra. She also was arrested for investigation of Rodriguez's murder and is being held without bail on a parole violation.
Rodriguez had returned home from a soccer game Jan. 11 when he answered a knock at the family's front door. Police say Rodriguez was lured outside and shot to death a few minutes later.
