Cuban boat overturns off Key West, Florida: 2 dead, 10 missing, Coast Guard says
Coast Guard rescuers pulled 8 survivors from the water
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}At least two people died and 10 remained missing Friday after a boat that had left Cuba Sunday overturned 16 miles southwest of Key West, Fla., on Wednesday, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
The Coast Guard said its search had covered more than 6,500 square miles as of Friday evening, authorities say.
That’s about the size of Hawaii.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Rescuers pulled another eight people from the water after the vessel overturned around 1 p.m. ET Thursday.
"We will continue to search through the night for those reported missing, and if any mariners see or hear anything, to render assistance if possible and contact the Coast Guard," Senior Chief Seth Haynes, Key West command center supervisor, said in a statement.

Two Coast Guard cutters, the Resolute and Kathleen Moore, as well as USCG and Navy helicopters were deployed for the search and rescue mission. Florida Fish and Wildlife officers were also assisting, and Customs and Border Patrol is supplying additional air assets.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The remains of the deceased victims were taken to shore. The survivors were being given food, water and medical attention on the Resolute.

Two USCG cutters and several smaller boats were deployed for the search and rescue mission, which remained active more than six hours after the incident.
The make, model and size of the ill-fated vessel were not immediately clear. Nor were details about how it flipped over.

The Coast Guard said it repatriated eight Cubans on Thursday after they were interdicted off Islamorada, another key to the east, last week.
The migrants were spotted aboard "a green rustic raft" last Friday evening that authorities described as a "dangerous environment."
