Prosecutors have concluded two California Highway Patrol officers acted properly when they shot and killed a man and injured another during an undercover operation into illegal street racing near Los Angeles last year.

Orange County Senior Deputy District Attorney Brock Zimmon says an investigation found Sgt. John Cleveland and Officer Rich Henderson were legally justified in shooting at a car driven by Pedro Erik Villanueva on July 3.

Villanueva was killed and passenger Francisco Orozco was wounded.

The shootings happened after the officers followed a pickup truck into a dead-end street in the city of Fullerton.

Officers said they fired when the truck turned around and drove toward them.

The Orange County Register reported Monday (http://bit.ly/2j52Wts) that Villanueva's family will proceed with a lawsuit against the highway patrol.
