One student is dead and at least 10 injured in the crash of a school bus and a tractor trailer on a rural Mississippi highway.
The Bolivar County Coroner's Office told Fox News that a 10-year-old female student died in the accident at about 7:20 a.m. Friday. Deputy coroner Murray Roark said several other children sustained life-threatening injuries in the crash.
The accident happened at the intersection of Mississippi Highway 450 and U.S. Highway 61 in southern Bolivar County. Both vehicles flipped over on impact, the Bolivar Commercial newspaper reports.
The Shaw School District said the bus was one of theirs, carrying students ranging from kindergarten through high school. There were 13 people on the bus, including the driver.
Officials believed that fog may have played a role in the crash but say an investigation is under way.
The crash victims were transported to hospitals in Jackson, Memphis and Greenville.
