Vermont's coziest bed and breakfasts
Tucked into Vermont's picturesque landscape are some of the coziest B&Bs.
- The Round Barn Farm Waitsfield, Central Vermont, Vermont The Inn at the Round Barn Farm has a serene location with more than 245 acres of rolling green hills in every direction. It has a decidedly romantic ambiance, with rooms that have Jacuzzi tubs and/or working fireplaces. Having a small indoor pool and fitness center (though technically it's only a few cardio machines) is a true B&B rarity in these parts, but the real draws here are the peaceful ambiance, romantic and cozy experience, incredible views, and fresh air. Its namesake, the Round Barn -- seen here, is a popular event space.read moreOysterShare
- Swift House Inn Mid Vermont, Vermont, United States The historic Swift House Inn's 20 rooms are spread throughout the Main House (formerly a Governor's Mansion), the Carriage House, and the Gate House. Some rooms offer a classic New England B&B vibe with floral wallpaper, fireplaces, and four-poster beds, while others are more understated, with soft-toned walls and tasteful furniture. One of the inn's highlights is its delicious and free breakfast, and an on-site restaurant, Jessica's, is a popular destination for both guests and locals.read moreOysterShare
- The Pitcher Inn Warren, Central Vermont, Vermont From the outside the Pitcher Inn might appear like a typical New England B&B, but once inside, the quality and character of this property is revealed. All 11 rooms and suites are individually decorated according to a different theme -- such as mountain, ski, or trout -- and feature knickknacks and antiques that are unique to Vermont. Rooms have luxe extras: All have Jacuzzi tubs and radiant floor heating, and some have wood-burning fireplaces, balconies, or huge steam showers.read moreOysterShare
- The Vermont Inn Central Vermont, Vermont, United States The Vermont Inn is a historic, family-run property in tiny Mendon, located halfway between Killington Ski Resort and Rutland. It has classic New England decor throughout and an overall cozy feel, but common spaces could use refreshing. Rooms are homey if not luxurious, and vary in size and configuration. They all have small flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and clean bathrooms, and some have features such as four-poster beds, fireplaces, and jetted tubs. The restaurant serves tasty Vermont cuisine and is only open for dinner, and the pub offers a wonderful breakfast that is included in the nightly rate.read moreOysterShare
- The Grafton Inn Grafton, Southern Vermont, Vermont This historic inn is a popular choice for weddings due to its picturesque location in Grafton and reputation for delicious food. The 45 rooms are spread throughout the Main Tavern and four guesthouses, all clustered in the same area. Rooms are typical for New England, with four-poster beds, lots of floral prints, and tight bathrooms. No rooms have TVs, but they do have iPod docks, and Wi-Fi is free (although some rooms have a spotty connection). Unlike similar nearby hotels, the Grafton Inn has extra features including tennis courts, a fitness center, and a pond for swimming.read moreOysterShare
- Forty Putney Road Bed and Breakfast Brattleboro, Southern Vermont, Vermont Forty Putney Road is a small, riverfront B&B with lovely scenery. The decor is more understated than the classic New England style of big floral prints and four-poster beds, but it feels updated and fresh. A two-course, gourmet free breakfast is a highlight here, along with the on-site intimate pub and long list of local brews. No children under 12 are allowed at the inn, encouraging a romantic stay. Most rooms have cozy gas fireplaces, but like most B&Bs, the inn doesn't offer a fitness center or spa. Additional perks here include rooms stocked with free goodies like snacks and drinks, and an indoor Jacuzzi overlooking the grounds.read moreOysterShare
- West Hill House Bed & Breakfast Warren, Central Vermont, Vermont The West Hill House is a cozy and homey -- if not quite luxurious -- bed-and-breakfast escape. Each room is different, and all have plenty of space, comfortable beds, and working fireplaces. It's the B&B style of service that makes this place stand out: Details ranging from innkeeper Peter's well-stocked wine cellar, to the mug warmer, to the three-course breakfasts, really make the experience. It's also very close to Sugarbush Ski and Golf resort, although many of Vermont's other tourist attractions are a one-hour drive or more away.read moreOysterShare
- Amee Farm Pittsfield, Crossroads of Vermont, Vermont With its warm, urban-chic vibe, Amee Farm isn't a typical B&B. Rooms look straight out of an interior design magazine, with a near-perfect combination of rustic, warm, quaint, and stylish touches. Wide-planked hardwood floors, comfortable beds with white, soft linens, and interesting antiques are found in all the rooms. Bathrooms have granite showers with rain showerheads and updated fixtures (though not all rooms have private bathrooms). There are no TVs in rooms -- only in the common area -- but Wi-Fi is free and available throughout. One perk here is an inviting wrap-around porch with Adirondack chairs for admiring the scenery. Be prepared to hunker down and eat on-site, as Pittsfield has little more than a general store to offer.read moreOysterShare
- Juniper Hill Inn Southern Windsor County, Vermont, United States This historic property has seen some pretty famous folks pass through its doors -- Presidents Roosevelt, Coolidge, Wilson, and Eisenhower, as well as several famous artists, all have visited this lovely B & B. The property still has a relaxing vibe -- the 16 unique rooms are decorated in an old-world style, the quiet library is an inviting place to relax, and the manicured grounds and surrounding serene woods help create a peaceful atmosphere. Those who feel they need to be connected to the rest of the world might want to look elsewhere (there’s no Internet and no TV at the inn), but this is a wonderful pick for a romantic getaway.read moreOysterShare
- Fox Creek Inn Chittenden, Crossroads of Vermont, Vermont There's rural Vermont, and then there's seriously rural Vermont: The Fox Creek Inn's location falls into the latter category. Room decor varies drastically, but all rooms are cozy (in that slightly cottage-kitschy way that only B&Bs can pull off) with comfortable four-poster beds, working fireplaces and lots of natural light. Public spaces, such as the dining room, reading room, and wrap-around porch are inviting, which is good because there's not much to see or do within a short driving distance, besides skiing at Killington Mountain Resort. This type of B&B is best suited for couples looking to truly seclude themselves for a weekend.read moreOysterShare
- Rabbit Hill Inn Northeast Kingdom, Vermont, United States The 19-room Rabbit Hill Inn combines the peaceful atmosphere of Northern Vermont with an elegant B&B experience. The clean, spacious rooms are more "L.L. Bean cozy" than "Manhattan chic," and each is individually decorated. Outstanding features in some of the rooms include wood-burning fireplaces and soaking tubs for two. All essential B&B elements -- antiques, comfy beds, a cat (named Reese) -- are accounted for, as well as some less common B&B perks (free Wi-Fi, and an on-site tavern with a skilled barman). This Vermont inn offers a a lovely restaurant with free breakfast, personalized service, and an escape from technology -- rooms are TV-free and cell phones have limited service.read moreOysterShare
- The Inn at Ormsby Hill Green Mountains, Vermont, United States The Inn at Ormsby Hill is a quintessential historic B&B. Guests come to know the innkeepers -- who make a delicious free breakfast -- by name over the course of a peaceful stay. Each of the 10 rooms is individually decorated, but they all share a theme of classic New England decor with lots of patterns and warm colors. There are no extra amenities, like a fitness center or spa, that might be the norm at a larger hotel. Modern extras like flat-screen TVs and iPod docks keep the inn from feeling dated, and some rooms have lovely extras such as fireplaces, private decks, and steam-sauna rooms. Even though it is located on a relatively busy street, the property is large enough for short walks or watching the sunrise over the mountains.read moreOysterShare
