A tourist was injured when he fell into an 8-foot-deep hole that was part of an installation by top British artist Anish Kapoor.

According to the Art Newspaper, the accident occurred at the Serralves Museum in Portugal — and the installation has been closed while the museum figures out what happened. The piece “Descent Into Limbo” (1992), involves a cube-shaped building which visitors can enter, and has a circular hole in the middle of the floor. The hole is painted black inside, “giving the illusion of a depthless void.”

Reports said the injured visitor was an Italian man, about 60, who was hospitalized. A museum rep told the Art Newspaper on Friday that the “visitor is OK [and] almost ready to return home,” and that “security protocol was followed.”

The rep said there were warning signs up as part of the installation, plus a staffer on duty. The piece is part of the Kapoor exhibition “Works, Thoughts, Experiments” at the museum through Jan. 6.
