'Horrible joke' about bomb in carry-on bag gets Air Canada passenger, 53, arrested, report says

An Air Canada passenger alarmed airline personnel when she allegedly joked about a bomb being inside a carry-on bag during a Tuesday flight out of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., resulting in flight delays and her arrest.
Nathalie Dorothee Tremblay, 53, of Montreal, was sitting with her boyfriend on a flight back to Canada when a flight attendant asked who owned a bag that wouldn’t fit in an overhead compartment.

{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}“There’s a bomb in it,” Tremblay joked to her boyfriend, according to reports.
Tremblay’s comment resulted in passengers having to disembark the plane, the Sun-Sentinel of South Florida reported. Terminal 2 was closed off and the Broward County Sheriff’s Office bomb squad examined the luggage and found it did not contain an explosive.
When questioned by deputies, Tremblay told several versions of what transpired and apologized for the comment, according to the paper.

“I hope there’s not a bomb in there,” she told authorities. She was arrested on suspicion of making a false report of a bomb, explosive, weapon of mass destruction.
Her defense lawyer on Wednesday told a court “I do understand that in the times we’re living in, this was basically a horrible joke gone wrong, and I do believe Ms. Tremblay realizes that now.”
