47 Royal Caribbean passengers sick with gastrointestinal bug

Royal Caribbean passengers aboard The Grandeur of the Seas are feeling less than grand after a gastrointestinal outbreak that has sickened 47 passengers to date.
The liner departed Baltimore on Jan. 2 with roughly 2,900 guests and staffers onboard, with stops planned in Charleston, S.C., Orlando, Fla., and the Bahamas.

{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Royal Caribbean spokesman Owen Torres told Fox News the itinerary has been adjusted in the wake of the outbreak and will now return home on Jan. 12, instead of Jan. 10, as initially planned.
“Those affected by the short-lived illness have been treated by our ship’s doctors with over-the-counter medication, and we hope all our guests feel better quickly,” Torres said via email. He added that the cause of the outbreak remains unknown at this time.

{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}“We’re taking steps like intensive sanitary procedures to minimize the risk of any further issues. The ship will undergo special cleaning procedures before it departs Saturday for her next cruise,” he wrote. In addition, all passengers on board are encouraged to wash their hands often.
As evidenced by recent photos shared to Instagram, guests nevertheless appear to be enjoying their cruise.
