Wisconsin Man Stabs Dog 8 Times

A 43-year-old man who repeatedly stabbed his dog in a drunken rage will spend the next two years in prison after his probation was revoked.

According to court records released Friday, Robert J. Dent of Two Rivers was also sentenced this week to two years extended supervision and fined $1,361.

Dent had been on probation for his seventh drunken driving charge when he stabbed the family dog eight times Aug. 15. He reportedly had a blood-alcohol level of 0.36 percent at the time.

In Wisconsin the legal limit for drunkenness is 0.08 percent.

Dent's probation stemmed from his arrest in November 2004 when another driver reported seeing him sleeping in his truck on a freeway shoulder, according to a criminal complaint.

He resumed driving and a deputy who later pulled him over found an open beer can at Dent's feet, prosecutors said.

Dent failed field-sobriety tests and had a preliminary blood-alcohol level of 0.06 percent. The figure is below the legal limit but above the minimum allowed for someone with six prior drunken driving convictions.
