Whale-Watchers Find Woman's Body Floating in Pacific Ocean

Sightseers on a whale-watching cruise found the body of a woman floating in the Pacific Ocean about a quarter-mile off Redondo Beach.

Sgt. Phil Keenan says nearly 100 people, including many children, were aboard the Voyager whale-watching boat when they noticed the body Wednesday at about 10:30 a.m.

Harbor Patrol officers pulled 39-year-old Cindy Denq of El Monte from the sea.

The death is being investigated as a suicide. The sergeant says Denq had previously jumped from the Voyager, but the skipper stopped and she was pulled back into the boat. Keenan says she apparently entered the water from the beach this time.
