A veteran police officer has been charged with soliciting a woman he thought was a prostitute, but was actually an informant being monitored by the officer's coworkers, authorities said.
Alan Davis, 43, approached the woman Sunday while on duty in his marked patrol car with his K-9 in the back seat of the vehicle, police said. Davis drove the woman to a warehouse area and offered her $40 for sex and began removing his gun belt, authorities said.
Davis, a 21-year veteran, was taken into custody and charged with solicitation and transportation with the purpose of prostitution. He has been released on $1,000 bond and has been suspended without pay.

A telephone listing for Davis was not available and it was not clear if he had an attorney.
Davis had been under investigation for a month after the department received an allegation from another woman that Davis had solicited her for sex, Police Chief Michael Hammerschmidt said.
"There were discussions that led us to believe he was going to start working on this lady," Hammerschmidt said. "She notified Miami police. They notified our internal affairs because they knew we were working on this investigation."
