TV News Helicopter Loses Power, Lands Near I-95

A helicopter leased by West Palm Beach television station WPEC lost power and landed on its belly but no one was seriously injured.

Two people were on board during the hard landing Tuesday morning: the pilot and Paul Cavenaugh, WPEC's traffic reporter. They were taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.

According to the WPEC Web site, Sky 12 made a hard landing this morning after losing power around 6:20 a.m.

The chopper landed safely on its belly just east of I-95; the pilot landed after getting a warning light and looking for a safe place to land. The landing gear on the chopper was damaged and the tail of the chopper was also split in half, but the main section of the chopper is still intact.
