The Holy Father Is a Ratings Prayer Answered
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Have you been following any of this pope coverage?
Apparently you're not alone.
The guy's a ratings magnet.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}And at 81, a real draw with younger viewers as well, actually, especially younger viewers.
I've seen it in news ratings.
This channel, all channels.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The Holy Father is a ratings prayer answered.
Which defies logic, if you think about it, or conventional media logic if you hear it.
Old people don't rate.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Apparently they do.
Messages of simple goodness won't sell.
Apparently they will.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}And a guy who talks about building us up will fare better than candidates determined to drag each other down.
The build up guy does better than the tear-down ones.
I don't know if it's a sign of a nation tired of political in-fighting, credit-crunching, or mortgage-melting, but I do know Pope Benedict is melting something else.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Our hearts.
Not just Catholic hearts. All hearts.
All interested not only to see the novelty of a pope in the U.S.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}But a timely message for the U.S.
I like you. I admire you. I thank you.
Sometimes people need to hear they're valued.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Not from politicians who want our vote.
But from a simple and decent man who wants nothing more than to prove he wants us, period.
That, my friends, is love.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}And it matters.
And yes, it rates.
