Shirley Temple Receives Achievement Award

Shirley Temple Black (search), who enchanted generations as the curly haired moppet singing "The Good Ship Lollipop" in the 1934 movie "Bright Eyes," will be honored by the Screen Actors Guild (search) with its prestigious Life Achievement Award.
Black, 77, will be presented the award during the 12th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards on Jan. 29. The Life Achievement Award is presented annually to an actor who fosters the "finest ideals of the acting profession."
Black has also been U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Ghana (search) and U.S. Ambassador to the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic.

"She has lived the most remarkable life, as the brilliant performer the world came to know when she was just a child, to the dedicated public servant who has served her country both at home and abroad for 30 years," SAG president Melissa Gilbert (search) said in a statement.
