“One Life to Live” actor Clint Ritchie died just hours after surgery to have a pacemaker implanted.

The 70-year-old actor died peacefully in his sleep on January 31, Radaronline.com reports.

Ritchie’s longtime friend and bookkeeper Linda Honore said Ritchie "had been sick for awhile. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.”

Ritchie was best known for his role on the ABC soap opera "One Life To Live," where he played the plain-spoken ranch owner Clint Buchanan. Ritchie joined the cast in 1979 and last made an appearance on the soap in 2004.

The actor also starred in TV westerns in the 1950s and ‘60s and in films including “The St. Valentine Day’s Massacre,” “Patton,” and “A Force of One.”

Ritchie, who never married or had children, lived on the 60-acre Happy Horse Ranch in Grass Valley, Calif., near Sacramento.

ABC Television did not immediately respond for comment.
