Police Say South Carolina Woman Abandoned Toddler at Pastor's Home
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Police have arrested a South Carolina woman they say abandoned a toddler at a pastor's home.
Columbia Police Chief Tandy Carter says 29-year-old Misty Lynn Shealy Millender was arrested Thursday and charged with illegal conduct toward a child.
Officials say the woman dropped off her 1-year-old boy with a pastor in North on Monday. Swansea police also accuse Millender of shoplifting. North authorities accuse her of financial card fraud.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The law that allows parents to drop off unwanted children at a safe place only applies to those less than 30 days old. The boy was checked out at a hospital and placed with the Department of Social Services.
Millender was being held in the Richland County jail. It was not immediately clear if she had an attorney.
