MIAMI – A 17-foot-long panel fell from a cargo plane and landed outside a suburban Miami mall Friday morning, authorities said. No one was hurt.
It happened as an Atlas Air flight en route from Santiago, Chile, was starting its descent about 11:30 a.m., the Federal Aviation Administration said.
The panel landed in front of a Dillard's department store at the Miami International Mall, said Christina Baguer, a spokeswoman for the city of Doral, the suburb where it happened.
Jorge Tadeo told The Miami Herald he was sitting in a car in the parking lot when the piece landed.
"There was a loud thunder and it looked like something that blew off a truck or something," Tadeo said. "It fell over a tree and it blew into the parking lot."
No property was damaged and the plane landed safely, Baguer said.
The FAA was investigating.
