LAUREL, Md. – Police in Prince George's County said an officer was shot outside an elementary school that is being used as a polling place Tuesday.
Police spokesman Cpl. Stephen Pacheco said the officer, who wasn't identified, was investigating an alarm at Oaklands Elementary School at about 2:15 a.m. Tuesday when he saw a man lurking. He confronted him, the two fought and the officer's gun went off.
The policeman was grazed by a bullet on the forehead, but the wound is not life-threatening.
Authorities are searching for the suspect, who fled the scene.
The school is one of the county's polling places, but state elections administrator Linda Lamone said the police department allowed polls to open on schedule.
