New Hearing Set for Boy, 8, Accused of Killing Father, Another Man

A dependency hearing is scheduled Thursday afternoon for an 8-year-old boy accused in the deaths of his father and another man.

The boy is charged in juvenile court with two counts of premeditated murder in the Nov. 5 deaths of his father, 29-year-old Vincent Romero, and 39-year-old Timothy Romans.

Because Romero had primary custody of the boy, someone else must be appointed to fill that role. The 8-year-old's biological mother lives in Mississippi but has been at his side during hearings in an Apache County courtroom.

The state of Arizona initiated the hearing for the court to determine custody. The boy is now in juvenile detention.

Pro Tem Judge Robert Van Wyck will first decide whether to open or close the proceedings to the public.
