N.Y. Congressional Race Already Won?

A quick trip around Hannity's America...

Too Close to Call

Congressional Democrats and the White House seem to be claiming an early victory in the New York 20 special election that has been billed as a referendum on President Obama and his economic policies.

In the election held Tuesday to fill the seat vacated by Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand, the latest estimates show Democrat Scott Murphy leads Republican Jim Tedisco by only 25 votes with thousands of military and absentee ballots yet to be counted. Some reports even have the Republicans pulling ahead. But Wednesday, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs suggested this in itself was a win for the president:

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

WHITE HOUSE PRESS SECRETARY ROBERT GIBBS: In a district that has such a huge advantage by Republicans, to be competitive at this point I think says a lot.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

Really, Robert? Pay no attention to the fact that President Obama carried the district by 3 points in the presidential election and that a Democrat last held this seat.

Mr. Gibbs wasn't alone, Democratic cheerleader Chris Van Hollen, who is the chair of their Congressional Campaign Committee, also had a glowing assessment of the early results, saying that Murphy’s lead is a result of "his strong support for President Obama's Economic Recovery Act."

I'm not so sure a 25-vote lead is cause for celebration quite yet. This is a race that the Democrats should have easily won. The tide is turning in this country. Stay tuned.

No Mistakes?

Shortly after arriving in London for the G20 Summit, President Obama's tax-dodging treasury secretary sat down for an interview with Katie Couric. Tim Geithner is gets our Liberal Translation treatment:

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

KATIE COURIC, CBS NEWS: You've been treasury secretary for two months. By your own admission there have been mistakes, and if you could correct one of those mistakes, what would it be?

TIMOTHY GEITHNER, TREASURY SECRETARY: Well, Katie, I'm doing everything I can.

LIBERAL TRANSLATION: There are far too many to only name one!

GEITHNER: As quickly as I can to help this president get this economy back on track.

LIBERAL TRANSLATION: I don't have much time left in this, too. I need to act fast.

GEITHNER: And he said you know we're going to get some things wrong.

LIBERAL TRANSLATION: But take a look at Dodd, Barney and the gang on the Hill. They aren't exactly perfect either.

GEITHNER: But we'll be open about that, and we'll adapt as we need to do, but we want to move as quickly and effectively as possible across the board.

LIBERAL TRANSLATION: It's tough to be open when you're always getting caught red-handed.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

TurboTax cheat Tim Geithner couldn't come up with one mistake he's made in the past two months?! I can think of one redo that would make this country $787 billion richer.

Pop Psychology

In The FOX Nation, House Financial Services Chairman Barney Frank was caught in a characteristically diplomatic mood Wednesday. Congressman Frank has never been known as a Republican ally, but he ratcheted up the rhetoric, saying this on the House floor:

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

HOUSE FINANCIAL SERVICES CHAIRMAN BARNEY FRANK, D-MASS.: There's a psychological disorder which I am not equipped to diagnose. My colleagues on the other side, it's kind of like kids who have had a toy bear or a blanket and this security blanket means a lot to them. Their security blanket is being able to complain about something that happened before the break.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

You may be wondering what Republicans did to warrant this sort of denunciation. As it turns out, they had the audacity to oppose the Pay for Performance Act, which would allow the government to pay CEOs and regulate the salaries of all employees at companies that receive bailout funds.

So if I understand Congressman Frank correctly, if you oppose giving the government the power to hire and fire employees at will, you suffer from a psychological disorder? That sounds like crazy talk to me.

The Royal Treatment

We told you Wednesday about the video iPod President Obama gave the queen of England. What we did not tell you is what videos he uploaded on the device before giving it to her.

ABC News' Jake Tapper reports that our always humble president uploaded his own speeches onto the device before handing it over to the queen! But the real question is: Did he include some of these epic moments for her royal highness' viewing pleasure?

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: You send a kid to the emergency room for a treatable illness like asthma, they end up taking up a hospital bed, it costs — if they just gave — you gave them treatment early, and they got some treatment and a breathalyzer or an inhalator — not a breathalyzer. I haven't had much sleep in the last 48 hours so. The — if they had an inhalator — inhaler — I'm still stumbling over this word.

OBAMA: I bowled a 129.

JAY LENO, HOST, "THE TONIGHT SHOW": Oh no, that's very good. Yes. That's very good, Mr. President.

OBAMA: It was like Special Olympics.

OBAMA: You start asking well, what is it exactly that — is such a problem that you're seeing? Where's all this waste in spending? Well, you know, you want to replace the federal fleet with hybrid cars. Well, why wouldn't we want to do that?

(END VIDEO CLIP)

Since I'm sure the queen can never catch your speeches on television or anywhere else, she's probably so grateful you uploaded them on her iPod. Now she can access you whenever her heart desires. How thoughtful.
