Millionaire Officially Sentenced to Life in Prison After Jury Spares Him Death Penalty

Millionaire John Brooks has been officially sentenced to life in prison, less than one day after a jury spared him the death penalty.

Brooks will instead serve two concurrent life sentences, without possibility of parole.

Family members of slain handyman Jack Reid had harsh words for Brooks, calling him disgusting and a coward for killing their father.

Judge Robert Lynn called the murder a monstrous crime because of its excessive cruelty and premeditation.

Brooks was convicted last month of capital murder for paying three men in June 2005 to help him kill Reid with a sledge hammer.
