Massachusetts DA: Probable Cause to File Charges Against Accused Alabama Professor for 1986 Shooting
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}A Massachusetts district attorney says police newly found police reports on the 1986 shooting of Amy Bishop's brother show there was probable cause to file weapons and assault charges against her.
Bishop's shooting of her brother at their home was ruled an accident at the time.
Norfolk District Attorney William Keating said Tuesday there was probable cause to arrest Amy Bishop on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, carrying a dangerous weapon and unlawful possession of ammunition.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Keating said the reports do not contradict Bishop's mother's account that the shooting was an accident.
Keating said even if a grand jury had decided Amy Bishop's conduct met a standard of reckless behavior for a manslaughter charge, the statute of limitations has expired for that and the possible lesser charges.
