Man Kills Three at Upstate N.Y. Factory

A gunman shot three people Monday at a perfume and nail polish factory and then killed himself, police said.

The shootings happened at the Verla International (search) plant, where some 400 people are employed, New Windsor police said.

Police could not say whether any of the victims, who were transported to a hospital, survived the 12:25 p.m. attack.

The Times Herald-Record of Middletown reported the shooter was a former employee who was fired about a year ago.

The newspaper, citing unidentified police sources, reported the victims included at least one woman and that some were shot in the back of the head at close range.

No one answered a call to the factory.

New Windsor is about 55 miles north of New York City.
