Man Convicted of Killing 2 in Oklahoma Executed

The state of Oklahoma has executed a man who was convicted of first-degree murder in the 1993 fatal beatings of his former girlfriend's daughter and grandchild.

Julius Ricardo Young was pronounced dead at 6:27 p.m. Thursday at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester.

Young was convicted of killing Joyland Morgan and her son, Kewan, whose bodies were found Oct. 1, 1993, at their Tulsa apartment.

Prosecutors say Young was upset that Morgan's mother had recently ended their relationship. They say he broke into the family's apartment and beat the two with a baseball bat.

The 60-year-old Young maintained his innocence at an Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board hearing in December, but the board denied his clemency request.

All of Young's appeals had been exhausted.
