Man Arrested After Woman Reports Seeing Alleged Rapist on Bus

WAUKESHA, Wis. – A woman who was allegedly dragged into a park bathroom and raped helped police nab the suspect two weeks later when he got on the same bus she was riding.

The 20-year-old woman saw the man get on the bus and told the driver to call police, according to a criminal complaint. The driver radioed the message and the man was arrested when he got off the bus.

The bus arrest occurred Sept. 21. The woman, whose name was not released, pointed him out as the same man who raped her Sept. 4, according to the complaint.

"She was visibly shaking and crying and indicated she was upset with her close encounter with the defendant," the complaint said, describing her police interview after the man's arrest.

Anwau Terry, 25, was charged Monday with second-degree sexual assault and false imprisonment.

The complaint said the woman was reading at a picnic table near the bathrooms at Horeb Park when the man approached, talked to her for about 10 minutes and started to touch her, but when she told him to stop, he pulled her into the men's restroom.

Terry remained in jail Friday in lieu of bond. A court hearing was scheduled for Oct. 3. A message left for his public defender, Joseph Smith Jr., was not immediately returned.
