Magnitude 5.4 Earthquake Rattles Mexico Gulf Coast

A moderate earthquake has shaken the Mexican gulf coast city of Veracruz, sending people from fleeing from their homes.
Veracruz state Gov. Fidel Herrera says there are no reports of injuries or major damage, including to offshore oil installations. He spoke Thursday morning to local XEU radio station.
The 5.4-magnitude earthquake struck before dawn and was centered 44 miles from Veracruz, one of Mexico's most important ports, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Some residents fled outside in their pajamas.
The quake was felt more strongly in the town of Alvarado, just 28 miles from the epicenter. Mayor Bogar Ruiz said many residents rushed from their homes.
