Johnny Depp takes on Sean Connery in the warm projector bulb glow of The Foxlight.

Depp says making Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl was just like your mom always said: "Be careful or you could put someone's eye out." He learned a some fencing in an earlier film but the swashbuckling sword fights were a little different. He says a team of experts was on the set, but there was a real chance someone could lose a finger or an eye.

Pirates has been open since Wednesday and should be No. 1 this weekend, most critics agree. But a few critics think it's too violent for little kids and not hip enough for adults. And no, it's not rated "RRRRRRR." It's PG-13.

The other newcomer this weekend is the league of urban development? League of extra large gentlemen? No, it's the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. That's a confusing mouthful, and even with Connery at the helm, it's getting mixed reviews. I'm a 72-year-old action figure? Connery also helped edit the film after a falling out with the director. I'm a 72-year-old editor? Anyway, Box Office Guru predicts it will make a less than extraordinary $22 million this weekend.

And that's the always extraordinary look at the flicks, flacks and big screen attacks we unspool every week in the harsh glare of The Foxlight.
