A quick trip around Hannity's America...

Dissing the Pope

President Obama may soon find himself in yet another controversy involving the Catholic Church.

As noted by the National Catholic Register, the White House recently released details of a major overseas trip that president will make in July. His travels will include Russia, Ghana and Italy. But one stop not included on that list is Vatican City, even though Obama plans to overnight in Rome.

That omission is raising the question of whether or not the president will meet with Pope Benedict. Officials at the Vatican are already suggesting that a snub of this nature from a U.S. president visiting Italy would be highly unusual.

President Obama tries to act like he's always so busy, yet every time I turn around he's rubbing elbows with a new celebrity. I guess meeting the pope isn't one of his top priorities.

Mr. Unpopular

This next story should make Nancy Pelosi feel really good, because she's not the only Democrat in hot water.

A recent poll shows that Senator Harry Reid's chances for reelection may be in grave danger. According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Nevada voters are beginning to turn on the four-term incumbent, as "45 percent say they would definitely vote to replace him."

And that's not the only bad news facing the Senate majority leader. According to the poll, half of Nevada voters had an unfavorable view of Reid. His strongest numbers were in the liberal stronghold of Clark County, but even there, only 39 percent of those polled want to see him reelected.

No Republicans have stepped forward as of yet to challenge Reid, but with numbers like that, I have a funny feeling soon there are going to be more than a few takers.

Climate Catastrophe

The Meltdown is brought to you by the scaremongers over at MSNBC.

NewsBusters.org points out that the folks over there at the network recently debuted a new series called "Future Earth" which will surely become TV's focal point for environmental alarmism:

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Coastal cities worldwide underwater, with oceans on the rise. According to many scientists, the question is not if but when.

As the ground zero for global warming, the Arctic, is melting.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: We will reach the zero line sometime around 2013.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: The Arctic's new defrost cycle is warming Greenland's huge land-based glaciers.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: If that starts to go in a quick way, you add sea level from Bali to Boston — 20 feet or so.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

Unfortunately, these dramatic scenarios predicting the demise of major cities does not square with science. According to global warming expert Bjorn Lomborg, "That makes for vivid imagery, but it isn't what the science is telling us. According to thousands of scientists the U.N. asked to evaluate the data, the sea level rise between now and 2100 will be somewhere between six inches and two feet — not 20 feet — with most estimates around one foot."

Survey Says...

The economy is doing all sorts of funny things to people's moods, but some trends never die. Brace yourselves, Democrats, because Yahoo News reports that happiness is being old, male and Republican!

According to a number of surveys conducted by the Pew Research Center, while 45 percent of self-identified Republicans say they are "very happy," only 30 percent of Democrats said the same.

And this held true cross all income levels. "The study that found Republicans to be happier than Democrats also shows that it held true even after adjusting for income."

So if you're feeling bummed out lately, I think I know why: You're too liberal.
