How Is John Edwards Faring in Getting Forgiven for His Affair?

Now some fresh pickings from the Political Grapevine:

Act of Contrition

The forgotten man of the Democratic convention, John Edwards, is trying to dig himself out of trouble with former aides and supporters. The New York Daily News reports the erstwhile presidential candidate has been asking for forgiveness for lying about his affair with videographer Rielle Hunter.

But, his telephone calls and pleas for understanding have instead gotten a chilly response. When Edwards called one longtime confidant, the conversation ended abruptly after he was told, "I don't want you to call me again."

And, an ex-aide who spoke on the condition of anonymity said he does not expect to speak to his former boss ever again, adding that their conversation was "kind of pathetic, to tell you the truth."

Bulk Buyer

One smart online entrepreneur is hoping to cash in on the newly minted Democratic ticket. The individual has purchased the Web site domain ObamaBiden.org and 15 similar names, and is selling them on the Internet auction site eBay as a complete package. The successful bidder would win the rights to all 16 Obama-Biden names.

Some of the others include Obama-Biden.com, ObamaBiden-2008.com and ObamaBiden-2008.org

The starting bid is a whopping $100,000 but shipping and handling for the legal rights to the names are free. There have been no bids as yet, and the auction ends Thursday.

See No Evil

They may be good for the environment and they certainly help with what some activists call noise pollution, but electric and hybrid cars are a big headache for the blind. The environmentally-friendly vehicles are so quiet that the visually impaired often complain they cannot hear them when crossing the street.

So, the California Legislature passed a bill last week to ensure the vehicles make more noise. The measure has been sent to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger who has not yet taken a position. It would establish a committee to study the issue and recommend ways to make the vehicles louder. The recommendations would be due by 2010.

A Question of Conception?

Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden is coming under fire in Denver for his pro-choice views on abortion. The Washington Times reports Denver Archbishop Charles Chaput said Sunday that Biden, who is Catholic, is "seriously wrong" for supporting abortion rights.

The archbishop added, "I presume that his integrity will lead him to refrain from presenting himself for communion if he supports a false 'right' to abortion."

Denver's archbishop was not invited to speak at any Democratic convention events but he says he would like to speak privately with the Delaware senator about the matter.
