High School Dancers Accused of Lacing Cupcakes With Clorox
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Three high school dancers in Texas have been suspended after claims they laced sweets meant for members of a rival school with rat poison, Clorox and laxatives, the El Paso Times reports.
Parents at Andress High School in El Paso, Texas, told the paper that they might press charges in the stunt allegedly hatched by dancers from Chapin High School.
"Several parents still wanted to press charges, but I am going to wait for the results," Andress parent Bea Saenz told the paper after a meeting Tuesday. "If it is just a little Ex-Lax, I will not pursue the issue. If it is a lot of Ex-Lax, rat poison or Clorox, then I will seek prosecution."
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The plan to give the rival team brownies and cupcakes tainted with household products was thwarted Friday night.
Three seniors from the Chapin Sapphire Dance Team received three-day suspensions this week after admitting they baked laxatives into brownies, school officials told the paper.
The girls deny claims that the sweets also contained bleach, rat poison and other household products, and school officials have sent the food for testing.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}"We want our students to conduct themselves as young men and women who compete fairly with one another," El Paso Independent School District Superintendent Lorenzo Garcia told the paper. "Students need to learn that what may have been acceptable as a prank years ago has become much more dangerous in today's world. We cannot tolerate incidents such as these."
Parents told the paper that the prank went way too far.
"It was very disturbing," Saenz said.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}No students were injured as a result of the prank, the district said.
