BEVERLY HILLS – Hal Holbrook has become the oldest best supporting actor nominee in Oscar history.
Holbrook will turn 83 in less than a month. The previous record-holder was Ralph Richardson, who was just past his 82nd birthday when he was nominated.
Holbrook is up for his role in "Into the Wild."
It took Ruby Dee 83 years to earn her first nomination for "American Gangster," but she's nowhere near the record holder. Gloria Stuart was 87 years old when she was nominated for "Titanic."
If Holbrook wins, he'll be the oldest Oscar-winner ever, male or female. The same goes for Dee.
So far, the oldest winners have been George Burns and Jessica Tandy. Both were 80 when they picked up their Oscars.
