Group Wants 'God' in WWII Memorial

The Reverend Patrick Mahoney says there's a glaring omission from the new World War II Memorial (search) — any mention of God, prayer or the faith that he says helped Americans win the war.

Mahoney, who heads the Christian Defense Coalition (search), says that's in sharp contrast to the nearby Washington Monument and the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials.

Mahoney says his group will try to raise private funds to engrave an additional quote from General Douglas McArthur (search) on the World War II Memorial. It would read, "Let us pray that peace be now restored to the world and that God will preserve it always."

A spokeswoman for the new memorial tells The Washington Times that Mahoney and his supporters "are free to put their comments in writing and address it to the appropriate authorities."
