Ice cream everyday sounds like a dream diet for any kid – but for 9-year-old Lucy Murphy, the daily dose of dessert is helping to keep her severe epilepsy under control.
Lucy, who’s being treated at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth, England, was having violent seizures every day until she started a special high-fat diet.
Now her diet is made up of 80 percent fat from cream, butter and oils.

Since starting the regimen, she is now only having fits every couple of weeks despite taking less medication.
"She has cream with everything,” her mother Denise said. “It has given her back her life."
Lucy was in intensive care 18 times in one year as a toddler because of her drug-resistant epilepsy.

The “ketogenic diet”, which is very high in fats and low in carbohydrates, helps control seizures in some people with epilepsy.
