Fast Facts: Saddam Aides to Be Tried

Within the next 48 hours, Saddam Hussein and the following individuals and their designation on the U.S. military's 55 Most Wanted Iraqis as portrayed on a deck of cards, will be formally charged by the Iraqi Special Tribunal (search) for crimes against the Iraqi people and human rights violations:

1. Saddam Hussein (search); president; detained Dec. 13

2. Ali Hasan al-Majid (search), also known as Chemical Ali for his role in chemical weapons attacks against the Kurds; No. 5 (King of Spades) on the most wanted list; detained Aug. 21

3. Aziz Saleh al-Numan (search); Baath Party Baghdad regional command chairman; No. 8 (King of Diamonds) on the most wanted list; detained May 22, 2003

4. Barzan Ibrahim al-Hassan al-Tikriti (search); presidential adviser and Saddam's half brother; No. 38 (5 of Clubs) on the most wanted list; allegedly the chief organizer of a clandestine group of companies and funds handling Saddam's money; detained April 16, 2003

5. Kamal Mustafa Abdullah al-Tikriti (search); secretary of the Republican Guard; Saddam's son-in-law; No. 10 (Queen of Clubs) on the most wanted list; detained May 17, 2003

6. Muhammed Hamza al-Zubaydi (search); retired revolutionary command council member; a leader of the 1991 suppression of the Shiite rebellion; No. 9 (Queen of Spades) of the most wanted list; detained April 20, 2003

7. Sabir Abdul Aziz Al-Douri (search); governor of Baghdad; head of military intelligence during the 1991 Gulf War; detention date not known

8. Abid Hamid Mahmoud al-Tikriti (search), presidential secretary; he oversaw personal security force; detained June 16, 2003. No. 4 (Ace of Diamonds) on the most wanted list

9. Sultan Hashim Ahmad (search); defense minister; No. 27 on the most wanted list; detained Sept. 19.

10. Taha Yassin Ramadan (search); Iraqi vice president; revolutionary command council member; No. 20 (10 of Diamonds) on the most wanted list; detained Aug. 20

11. Tareq Aziz (search); former deputy prime minister; former foreign minister; No. 25 (8 of Spades) on the most wanted list; detained April 25, 2003.

12. Watban Ibrahim al-Hasan al-Tikriti (search); presidential adviser and Saddam's half brother; No. 37 (5 of Spades) on the most wanted list; detained April 13, 2003
