Surgeons who work with robots are gathering in Chicago to discuss advances, techniques and challenges in this growing specialty.

The first annual meeting of the Clinical Robotic Surgery Association takes place Friday and Saturday at the Swissotel on E. Wacker Dr.

This technique has robot-like devices help surgeons make tiny cuts with skinny scaled-down instruments. Videos of actual operations will be shown at the meeting.

Robotic surgery is increasingly used in everything from weight loss surgery to cancer treatment and children's operations.

It's expensive and can be tricky to learn but advantages can include less blood loss and fewer surgical site infections.

Emerging technologies and techniques will be discussed at the meeting.
