NEW YORK – A worker is dead after a construction accident on New York City's Throgs Neck Bridge.
A spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority says the worker was struck by the boom of a small crane mounted on the back of a truck.
The Fire Department initially said the worker was killed in a fall.
No other details are immediately available.
The northbound lanes of the bridge that connects Queens to the Bronx were briefly closed, but have since reopened.
The bridge is undergoing renovation this summer, and the work has been plagued by trouble. In July, a fire started by a worker's blowtorch shut down the bridge.
Some sections didn't reopen to heavy trucks until recent weeks.
