Americans may still may favor Bud Light, but it's no longer that top beer in the world. That distinction now belongs to a Chinese beer named Snow, Reuters reports.
Snow, which is brewed by SABMiller and its Chinese partner China Resources Enterprises Ltd., watched its sales volumes jump 19.1 percent last year, according to provisional data researcher from Plato Logic.
The United States and China have been economic rivals in a number of sectors for some time, and the beer industry is no exception.
The rise of Snow came as China surpassed America this decade to become the largest beer market in the world in terms of volume, Reuters reports. Plato listed Snow second to Bud Light but ahead of Budweiser two years ago.
Anheuser-Busch InBev, however, still claims that Bud Light is the world’s best selling beer as a single trademark brand, because the Chinese brand encompasses a family of beers, including at least two dozen varieties.
Anheuser-Busch, which brews Bud Light and Budweiser, was purchased by Belgium-based InBev in November to create the world’s largest brewer.
