Bandits, 13 Ghosts and Panic Room

New video releases bring the stars into your home, but do you want them there? They're messy in the harsh glare of The Foxlight.

A lot of people raved about this movie when it came out. I thought it was just OK, and couldn't really put my finger on why. But I thought it was going to be a big hit anyway. We were all wrong. Bandits flopped at the box office. The film has a clever idea and a top notch cast a self-deprecating Bruce Willis, Billy Bob Thornton and Oscar-fave Cate Blanchett in a funny wig. This is basically a robbing road picture with a Bonnie and two Clydes. But Bandits may fare better on the small screen. And it does have a great ending.

Maybe it's the lesser of evils, because speaking of evil, almost anything is better than the other new release 13 Ghosts. One ghost for each dollar this thing made at the box office. Shannon Elizabeth joins a lot of other people you sort of recognize in a Rubik's cube of a glass house that has a bunch of bad spirits living in the basement. To call them annoyed is like saying O.J. had a troubled marriage. People who live in glass houses shouldn't make this movie.

Maybe this is a good week to go out to a film and see something great like Panic Room. Look for great word of mouth to keep this in the top 10 for many weeks to come.
