Sheriffs in Florida are investigating whether the posting of a baby for sale on Craigslist was a real ad or a hoax.
The listing for a 6-month-old baby girl in good health was flagged by Craigslist shopper Vonda Szczpaniak, who stumbled upon it Wednesday, according to FOX Orlando affiliate WOFL.
"It said, 'Baby for Sale or Trade.' I kind of missed it the first time, and then when I went back to it, I said, 'Baby for sale?'" she told the station. "I thought it meant baby doll. Wow, is this for real?"
Szczpaniak says she clicked on the link, which went to an ad purporting to sell the infant and saying the buyer would be willing to trade her in for an SUV or other vehicle.
There was even a photo of the child, who had brown hair and was wearing a one-piece jumpsuit, WOFL reported.
"Just a sweet, happy-looking baby, and she was smiling," Szczpaniak told the station.
She responded to the ad, asking the supposed baby seller if he was serious, WOFL reported. He responded "Yes." He said he would also consider a boat for trade, and thanked her.
She reported the ad to the Seminole County Sheriff's Office. Detectives are investigating.
The posting has since been taken down from Craigslist.
